Try this free and fun alternative - real text messages as received by an intermediate level learner of Chinese. Each post includes characters, pinyin, english, and a high-quality audio file. A Chinese friend with intermediate English helped us enter a lot of the messages, so please excuse any small English mistakes!

Project Goals:

1. Provide a set of materials that is a close approximation of kouyu and has relevance to everyday situations that may be encountered by a foreigner in China.
2. Provide a virtual study in China experience to those that are not able to obtain it by letting the reader encounter everyday language
3. Provide quality sound recordings to enhance the students learning experience
4. Build a lexicon that approximates kou3yu3 from the data - in the absence of a more suitable data set
5. To serve as an entertaining way to learn by providing a real-life soap opera kind of situation
