Try this free and fun alternative - real text messages as received by an intermediate level learner of Chinese. Each post includes characters, pinyin, english, and a high-quality audio file. A Chinese friend with intermediate English helped us enter a lot of the messages, so please excuse any small English mistakes!
Project Goals:
- Provide a set of materials that is a close approximation of kouyu and has relevance to everyday situations that may be encountered by a foreigner in China.
- Provide a virtual study in China experience to those that are not able to obtain it by letting the reader encounter everyday language
- Provide quality sound recordings to enhance the students learning experience
- Build a lexicon that approximates kou3yu3 from the data - in the absence of a more suitable data set
- To serve as an entertaining way to learn by providing a real-life soap opera kind of situation
